Singer, songwriter and Broadway star Josh Groban’s new single is hauntingly beautiful but there is a powerful message behind it. As someone who has experienced great highs and lows in his life he understands how things can get overwhelming and this song aims to help others who are suffering emotionally.
His new song “River” is about how we all need to find our own river when times get tough. In this day of social media domination when everything seems picture perfect, it’s easy to feel isolated but Groban wants to let his fans know they are never alone.
It’s a simple yet beautiful black and white video with no distraction from the important song lyrics.
Groban sings: “So I walk down to the river / Where the troubles, they can’t find me / Let the waters there remind me / The sun will be there when we wake.”
He told People.com that in times of need we should reconnect with the beauty surrounding us.
“Whenever we have dark times in our lives, whether we suffer from depression, or addiction, or anxiety, or even just having a really bad day, the worst is that it feels like we are suffering alone. In a world of billions connected by social media, far too many people feel this way and while the conversation is getting better, it’s not talked about nearly enough. I hope this song and video are a reminder that it’s the simple steps, the smallest gestures, that can pull us back to the light. It’s those things for me. Find your ‘river'”
