Country music star Alan Jackson and his family suffer heartbreaking tragedy

Country star Alan Jackson and his family are mourning the loss of their son-in-law Ben Selecman after he lost his life in a boating accident.

In a tragic turn of events the 28-year-old, who is married to Jackson’s daughter Mattie, lost his life while trying to help a woman onto a boat. Now the family have issued a statement asked for prayers during this difficult time.

According to The Tennessean, Ben was trying to help a woman onto a boat when he fell and hit his head. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly Ben passed away from “severe traumatic head injuries.”

His co-workers at Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk where Ben was Assistant District Attorney told The Tennessean his sense of humor and undeniable drive would be sorely missed around the office.

“He was really a rising star and I’m sick that we lost him, but I’m grateful for every day that he worked for us because he was great,” their statement added.

The Selecmans released a obituary to their precious son. It’s clear how much this young man will be missed.

“A man who always put his family first and never met a stranger, Ben had a true disciple’s spirit and a knack for making all those around him feel adored and respected,” it read. “A lifelong lover of nature and avid hunter and fisherman, Ben cherished God’s creation and found peace and life in the outdoors. An east Tennessee boy through and through, his soul always hummed of classic country music. A committed follower of Christ, Ben lived out the Great Commission with unconditional love for all those he knew, and a humble prayer for those he didn’t.

Ben is survived by his wife, Mattie; father and mother, Mark and Brenda; and his brother, Cole (Morgan).”
