Country music star Brad Paisley to give back to his community: By opening a grocery store for the needy

Country music star Brad Paisley is a Grammy award winning artist who has sold more than 11 million albums. He lives with his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley and their two sons in Franklin, Tennessee.

The couple wanted to find an inspiring way to give back to their community. Driven by a fear that their boys, who must live a life of luxury, may not be so appreciative of how lucky they are, they wanted to find a way for the whole family to give back and help teach their boys to be thankful.

Now the couple have come up with an inspiring way to help those people who have fallen on hard times and need a helping hand with dignity.

Working alongside Brad’s alma mater, Belmont University, they have hatched a plan to open The Store, a food bank that’s set up as a supermarket.

The Store will be stocked with both fresh and nonperishable food items donated by various organizations and will be available to those in need for one year, with a goal of serving 3,000 customers per year. The project is set to begin construction in 2019.

In an interview with The Tennessean, the country musician said: “All of us are one unforeseen disaster away from rock bottom,” he said.

“It’s nice to think about a place where when that happens to someone, they can use it to get back on their feet.”

The Paisley family was inspired after volunteering at a similar organization called The Unity Shoppe in Santa Barbara, California.

After their boys were acting a bit spoiled, their parents wanted to set them on a better path so they decided to volunteer at The Unity Shoppe with their sons, Huck, 11, and Jasper, 9.

OUR STORY The Store is inspired by Unity Shoppe, located in Santa Barbara, California. @unityshoppesb has been helping families in the community for more than 100 years. @bradpaisley and @kimberlywilliamspaisley first visited Unity Shoppe with their sons. “We took our boys to Unity Shoppe to teach them about serving others and giving back to people in need,” says Paisley. “And we came away surprised by what the organization had taught us. Most people don’t want handouts. They want dignity and respect. Most people want to become self-sufficient.” They were so inspired by the way Unity Shoppe empowers people, including volunteers, that they wanted to expand on that model here in Nashville. The Store is its own unique spin on a free grocery store that offers a healthy food shopping experience. “So many people are making great choices in their lives. It’s not like they’ve made major mistakes, they just need a little extra help and we want to be a resource for those people,” Kimberly told People.

“This is a grocery store with dignity for people who have fallen on hard times,” Brad explained to the Tennessean.

The project has been met with much praise for the couple.

Some comments raised concerns about the project becoming a “tourist trap” which could deter some people in need from visiting. Brad and Kimberly have assured the public that they are committed to serving their community and preserving those people’s dignity in the process.

Not only do I love that Brad and Kimberly are doing this for the Nashville community, I love that these two celebrities are still married. They are a great couple and a giving couple!

It’s so humbling to see people with everything giving back to their community in such a special way. We wish this wonderful couple all the success in this endeavor. Please share to show your support!
