How do you grow ginger?
First of all you need to order some seeds, either from a catalogue or a florist.
Ginger takes about 10 months to mature and it can not withstand frost. If you live in a place where it’s cold during the winter, it’s better to grow ginger in a pot indoors and take it out in the summer.
Make sure you have a pot that drains well and has a very rich plantation soil. Choose a pot that is wide and open, it is important because the ginger root grows horizontally.
Unlike most other potted plants, ginger loves shallow, wide pots.
Step by step
1. Soak the ginger overnight, in hot water.
2. Fill your jar with soil and place the ginger roots with the shoots pointing upwards. Cover the roots with 4-5 cm of soil.
3. Water a lot.
4. Place the pot in a reasonably warm place, which does not get too much direct sunlight.
5. Keep the ginger moist with a spray bottle. It grows slowly and it will take a few weeks before you see results.
Harvest after 3 months
Small pieces of ginger can be harvested 3-4 months after they begin to grow.
Ginger can be harvested in this way endlessly. As long as they are well cared for, they will continue to produce roots.
