Furious mom asks why black son was put on front line during shooting drills, didn’t expect this response

Following the horrific events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day when 17 students were shot and killed by 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, parents across the U.S. are having some tough conversations with their kids.

Parent Tanai Bernard, a teacher from Texas, had such a talk with her son Dezmond, to make sure he understood what to do should the unthinkable happen at his school.

The single mom wanted to make sure that her 10-year-old boy was taking the safety drills seriously and wasn’t using them “as a time to socialize and goof off.”

His, answer, however, shocked Tanai so much, she just had to share it on Facebook. Her post has been shared more than 150,000 times!

Dezmond, is a 5th-grader, who shocked his mom when he described the school safety drill.  Tanai retells the conversation below.

Tanai said she immediately froze when her son told her that his classmates then get behind three students and one of them was her son!

“I internally went from O to 100 real quick,” she wrote in her Facebook post. “My child is one of only two black children in a class of 23. Being transparent I immediately went to the ‘why is my black son being put on the front line?'”

So before she verbally stated her thoughts Tanai asked her son why he was picked to stand at the front, in the path of danger.

Dezmond revealed to his mom that he didn’t get picked, he volunteered to stand in front of his class mates and protect them if a threat entered his classroom. The extent of this young boy’s bravery is revealed in his response below. It will blow you away!

Tanai should be so proud of the boy she has raised.

People all over the world are moved by this boy’s bravery. Please share as a wonderful example to us all.
