Newborn baby dumped in washing machine with umbilical cord still attached, survives

Shop owner Sangduen Khaorueng runs a coin-operated washing business outside a shop in Krabi, southern Thailand.

According to The Daily Mail, the 47-year-old woman closed her business on a Friday afternoon and returned to open again on Monday.

When she opened her store, she was met with the sounds of a baby crying. She didn’t believe that it was coming from her business and presumed the baby was in a nearby house.

But when she checked inside her washing machine, she found a shocking sight.

A newborn baby boy had been dumped in one of her machines, wrapped in a towel, with his umbilical cord still attached.

She immediately alerted police and a local resident prepared a bottle for him.

Police Lieutenant Sanya Kaewnui from Krabi Police said the boy was taken to hospital where he is being cared for by hospital staff.

“We believe the baby is about five days old,” he added, according to The Daily Mail.

The article added that the boy was healthy, just very hungry.

“It is fortunate that he was crying or nobody would have noticed him in the washing machine,” added the lieutenant.

Officers are currently checking camera footage to hopefully trace the boy’s mother.

“If the baby cannot be returned to the family he will be brought up in an orphanage and offered for adoption,” he added.
