News anchors have a clear mission: to present facts in an accurate and correct way.
When Indian newsreader Supreet Kaur was reporting on a brutal car accident, she read the story the way she always has — with professionalism.
She had reported on horrific stories in the past, so this accident was nothing that she couldn’t handle… at first.
Then, she realized that the victim was her husband.
Surpreet has been working for the Indian TV channel IBC24 for nine years and is seasoned pro. But she has never been personally hit by the news before.
As she got behind her desk and started reading the news that day, she did her job just like she had thousands of times before.
This time, the news was about an unusually horrific car accident. And she had no idea that this particular story would change her life forever.
But the more details she got, the more she suspected who the victim was. Once she got all the facts, she realized that it was her husband who had died in the car crash.
Despite this terrible news, she continued her job — with the same professionalism as she always has. Surpreet and her husband had only been married for 18 months.
When Supreet’s colleagues found out what had happened, they completely fell apart. But Surpreet kept calm.
“It would be a terribly difficult situation for anyone. But Supreet controlled her anxiety, remained fully composed and showed exemplary commitment to her job. We are proud of her,” one of her colleagues told the Times of India.
Immediately after the broadcast, Surpreet completely broke down, which is fully understandable.
This is so sad. All our thoughts go out to her family in this difficult moment.
