In the fickle world of Hollywood where celebrities seem to swap partners as if they were designer clothes that have gone out of fashion, a celebrity couple that has stood the test of time is a welcoming distraction.
The relationship that Bond star Pierce Brosnan has with his wife Keely Shaye is one we can all aspire to. After more than a quarter of a century together the passionate duo still only have eyes for each other.
They’ve never once attracted rumors of cheating and are constantly caught in public kissing and holding hands. Keely is often the target of cruel trolls over her changing shape. Meanwhile the OO7 says he still adores his “passionate” wife who makes him “weak at the knees.”
But it’s not been an easy road for these two lovebirds. Keely met Brosnan three years after the death of his first wife Cassandra Harris.
While filming The Deceivers in Rajasthan, India, in 1987, Brosnan’s wife became seriously ill. Cassandra was later diagnosed with ovarian cancer and Brosnan then gave up his career to nurse Cassandra.
Pierce has often said his love for Cassandra “made me the man I am.”
Cassandra Harris finally succumbed to the disease in 1991.
Tragically, their daughter Charlotte also lost her life to the disease in 2013.
The actor revealed to the Express newspaper that it was Keely who encouraged him to mourn.
“Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie,” he said.
“I think of her all the time. I suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me.”
He said he has been lucky in the partners he has met in life adding: “I am blessed with my wife, Keely, who has always been remarkably kind and compassionate. Cassie is remembered with great love, remembered dearly. Keely has always accommodated that.”
The 65-year-old Irish born actor now shuns the spotlight in favor of spending time with his 54-year-old wife at their eco-friendly Malibu mansion, which is made from recycled wood and has a Zen garden.
They got married in 2001, 7 years after they first met at a bar in Mexico and Brosnan still refers to her as “my girl” and having “a strength I wouldn’t be able to live without.”
The couple have two sons and share a passion for nature working to prevent whaling and the destruction of our oceans’ inhabitants.
“I love her vitality, her passion. When Keely looks at me I go weak at the knees,” he says, as per The Sun newspaper.
Throughout his star-studded career appearing alongside some of Hollywood’s most beautiful women, Brosnan preferred to fly his wife to his filming locations so he could devote even more time to her.
“Wherever I went in the world I missed her, and I’d send her tickets to come so we could be together. We just seemed to fit,” he recalls.
The 54-year-old American journalist recalls the moment she met Brosnan at a beach party where she had flown in to interview “Cheers” actor Ted Danson. After Ted left Keely found herself chatting to Brosnan.
“He was captivating. Tall, dark, and handsome. Everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to,” she says. “He had a mischievous sparkle in his eyes.”
On their 26th anniversary, Pierce shared a picture of him and Keely alongside the caption: “My darling angel heart Keely, thank you for bringing such love and beauty into my life, for making these past twenty six years the greatest joy of my life…Happy anniversary my brown eyed girl❤️”
