The transition from being an only child to welcoming a new sibling to the family is never easy. For some children their world can suddenly become a very different place which can cause confusion and upset.
For 7-year-old Hailey McGregor she had not only welcomed a new baby brother into her life but also had to get used to the fact her father, an officer in the United States Navy, was deployed oversees. Hailey wasn’t used to not having her dad around so all these changes were a huge adjustment for her.
Little Hailey loves cheerleading, when she’s not at school. On this particular night, she didn’t suspect anything different about the football game she was going to cheer in that night.
She gets ready to perform her routine on the field with her fellow cheerleaders when the loudspeaker comes on with a special announcement. Hailey hears the name they announce and can’t believe it’s one that she recognizes. There, with the crowd watching, Hailey hears her father’s name and a range of emotions follow going from happy to shock and finally to tears.
She looks at her mom on the sidelines with a confused expression and then starts running toward her. She gives her the biggest hug as her mom tells her to look over at the other end of the field.
There, on the other end, is her father with a huge smile on his face. Hailey immediately runs towards him and jumps into his arms. The crowd breaks out in cheers and Hailey is in shock. This reunion completely caught her by surprise and it is one she and her family will treasure for many years to come.
