Nanny Caroline Maurer looked after two-year-old Fox while his parents Bill and Courtney worked.

She was out for her usual morning walk with Fox in his stroller when the two came to a four-way stop sign. There were no cars when she approached so she started crossing, then a car failed to stop and made a turn heading toward Caroline and Fox.

Had to choose: Two-year-old or her

In a split second she threw herself in between the oncoming car and Fox, who she couldn’t release from his stroller in time and was screaming at the car to stop.

The car crushed Caroline’s hand but Fox escaped unscathed, thanks to Caroline’s heroic actions.

Considered part of the family

Caroline suffered fractured bones in her hands, wrists and arms and thankfully Fox escaped with minor bruising. The paramedic at the scene said Caroline had saved the child’s life.

”“I think my first reaction was: She’s family for the rest of our lives,” Dad  Bill Wolkoff told KTLA. “Because of Caroline, the worst didn’t happen. She saved his life.”

Caroline’s courageous actions has received huge media attention including coverage by CBS News, and Fox’s parents started a You Caring page to cover Caroline’s hospital costs, raising more than $40,000 to date.
