I have always thought that toothpaste is only used for cleaning your teeth which is clearly the main purpose of this substance but I had no idea just how many other uses it has!

Do not leave your toothpaste in your bathroom just for your teeth, here is a list of 20 things that toothpaste can be used for in addition to brushing.

1. Removing ink stains

Certainly, it’s annoying when you forget that you’ve left a pen in your pocket that then starts to leak. But it’s not the end of the world; with a little toothpaste the stain is gone. Just rub some toothpaste on the stain and allow it to dry. Wash as usual the next day and notice the stain disappear.

2. Cleaning car headlamps

Do not waste money on expensive cleaning products for your car, toothpaste works just as well. You can even use a toothbrush to clean your headlamps, just rub toothpaste on them and rinse with water.

3. Polish the silver

Do you have old silver lying in a box at home? With the help of a little toothpaste, your silver will be restored to its former glory. Just rub with toothpaste and a soft cloth and it will be shiny and clean in no time.

4. Keep your sunglasses clean

Dirty sunglasses can be embarrassing so a simple fix is to rub a thin layer of toothpaste on the lens and rinse and you’ll be seeing things clearly again in no time.

5. Watermarks

Have you got rings on your wooden surfaces from water glasses? Pretty annoying and ugly right? Rub some toothpaste on the stain and watch it disappear before cleaning off.

6. Cleaning dirty shoes

Rub your white sneakers with a little toothpaste and they will look just like new in no time.

7. Cleaning piano keys

Piano keys tend to get discolored after a while. Rub with toothpaste and they will be just like new again.

You may have heard of this trick before but for those of you who didn’t know this is a tried and tested fix for acne. If you have problems with acne but don’t want to spend a fortune on expensive creams, dab some toothpaste on the problem area and you should see results. 

9. Relieving itchy mosquito bites

There are many over the counter treatments to relieve the itch of a mosquito bite but next time one strikes and you’re feeling the itch, dab a spot of toothpaste on the bite and enjoy the relief.

10. Removing stains

Just rub the stain with toothpaste, allow it to dry and then wash in the washing machine according to the instructions on the garment.

11. Remove nail polish

To remove nail polish without nail polish remover I thought was impossible but no longer. Rub your nails with toothpaste and watch the nail polish disappear. Bonus: your fingers will smell really fresh afterwards.

12. Clean your phone

Phones are often covered in more germs than your average toilet seat! Rubbing it against your t-shirt will not make much difference, but with a small bit of toothpaste wiped over the surface your phone will be germ-free and shiny clean in seconds.

13. Clean your iron

A dirty iron means everything you’re trying to iron gets dirty. Let it cool and rub a little toothpaste on the underside. Wipe away carefully then you are ready to start ironing again.

14. Removing odors

Do you have sneakers that stink but you cannot wash them? No problem. Rub some toothpaste along the edge of the sole so they smell fresh and good again.

15. Hang up posters

Do you live in an apartment where you’re not allowed to make holes in the wall. No problem. Now you can hang your favorite poster on the wall without a hammer and nail. The toothpaste works like glue but without destroying your wall.

16. Removing stains

A coffee or red wine stain on the carpet is never a good thing. But do not despair, toothpaste can remove the most stubborn stains.

17. Hand wash

Your hand soap has run out. No problem, wash your hands with toothpaste instead. It removes both dirt and bacteria.

18. Restoring CDs

Do you have an old CD at home that does not work because it’s covered in scratches? No problem. Rub the scratches on the disc with toothpaste and it will be play perfectly again.

19. Keep your thermos clean

An insulated bottle is perfect for all your outdoor trips but over time can get discolored and disgusting after a while. But there is a solution, and yes you guessed right toothpaste is the solution to this problem too. Squeeze toothpaste into the thermos and fill with warm water. Screw on the lid and shake as much as you can, then wash it as usual. Your thermos will look like new again.

20. Removing car scratches

It’s very annoying when you scratch your car as it’s both ugly and expensive to remove. But many scratches actually come out without a visit to the workshop. Rub some toothpaste on the area with a cloth and see what happens. It’s not guaranteed to work every time, but you’ve got nothing to lose by trying it out.
