It’s common knowledge that prisoners need some form of rehabilitation while serving their time. Certain methods and activities can actually help the well-being of inmates ensuring that when they are released they don’t fall back into bad behavior habits.
At one jail in the Philippines staff use dance as a form of therapy — keeping inmates focused on something that can relieve any stress they may be experiencing.
Inmates from The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center often work out complex dance routines to music by Michael Jackson.
They’ve already made the headlines with their dance routine set to the “King of Pop’s” ‘80s hit Thriller, which went viral over a decade ago.
It was posted as an example to other prisons to show how such therapy helped instill discipline amongst inmates and even led to a reduction in violent incidents.
Featuring Michael Jackson’s choreographer Travis Payne and celebrity dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid this latest dance routine was set to Jackson’s “They Don’t Care about Us.” It’s an appropriate track to let the public know that society often gives up on them.
Travis Payne said of his experience working with the prisoners, “That was the most moving experience that I could have imagined. I didn’t know that it would be so special. I knew that we were going there to celebrate Michael.”
