Michael Douglas honored with Hollywood star – watch what happens when he thanks his legendary father

Nobody is in any doubt that Michael Douglas is a living legend. Celebrating 50 years in show business and with (almost) as many movies to his name as his age, the two-time Oscar winner is joining his father on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with his own star.

It was a big occasion and Michael was surrounded by his loving family including his 101-year-old father Kirk Douglas, who has been out of the public eye for a while.

When Michael makes his speech he holds it together well until he talks about his dear father — it’s clear they have a special bond nobody can deny.

The 74-year-old thanked specific members of his family that were there to support him on his special day including his his wife Catherine Zeta Jones and his son Cameron, who with his partner Vivian Thibes, recently welcomed their first child with a family celebration.

“I’m so proud to see my son Cameron,” Michael said. He thanked Catherine for her support and patience. He followed up with, “By the way, in another week we’re celebrating our anniversary, our 18th anniversary, so thank you for the 18 best years of my life sweetheart.”

Instead of talking about his own success over the years, he humbly thanked the people that have helped him along the way with plenty of jokes, until it was time to thank his father, and in this case, he couldn’t hold back the tears.

I had a wonderful evening at the Legacy of Vision Gala, where Catherine Zeta-Jones was honored last night. I'm so happy my son Cameron was able to join us!

“And my dad is here. In a month, Kirk turns 102 years old. So those of you who took the under on him making 80, you lost a long time ago, alright? I know, I know, no son of yours is celebrating his 50th anniversary in the business. But it means so much to me, dad, that you’re here today. Thank you for your advice, for your inspiration, and I’ll say it simply and with all my heart, I’m so proud to be your son,” Michael said, choking back the tears.
