We all know how hard it is for so many youngsters to afford a college education. For many they have to put off going to college at 18 so they can save up the money needed first.
North Texas 19-year-old John Lopez got a job at Walmart so he could save for his college fund and put every paycheck into his savings account.
While on shift the 19-year-old found himself serving a distressed customer who realized she couldn’t pay her shopping bill. What John did next has gone viral.
John served a woman while on shift at Walmart who immediately caught his attention.
As he was ringing the items and the amount was going up, he noticed she was getting more and more distressed.
The panicked customer realized she didn’t have the money to pay for her items, and she started crying.
Without hesitating John said to the woman: ““OK, I got you… I got you.”
John paid for her bill with his own money.
Honored for his kindness
After he said: “I just felt in my heart that the Lord told me I had to help her.”
Another customer, Laci Simms, was standing in the same line and couldn’t believe what John had done. She took a picture and shared it on Facebook letting her followers know what John had just done.
In the post that has since been removed or marked private, Simms shares what so impressed her.
“I just witnessed this ‘kid’ pay for a cart of merchandise for a woman in obvious distress about her inability to pay. She was a few people ahead of us and when she had trouble paying her bill he stepped in and told her if she’d wait he would pay her total. Ya’ll, it was $110 dollars! He is always singing, upbeat, courteous, joyful and efficient. I don’t know John’s story, but I don’t think he is even 20 years old. He just renewed my faith in humanity and the generation we are raising! Everyone share this so the world knows what a blessing John is to our community!”
Her heartwarming post immediately went viral and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money for John’s college tuition.
Lopez says he didn’t expect anyone to notice and that he was trying to behave in the way his parents taught him.
“She started crying and I was like ‘okay I got you – I got you’,” John Lopez Jr. told CBS DFW and continued:
“I just felt in my heart that the lord told me I had to help her.”
