You can’t open the cover of a glossy magazine without some kind of relationship drama covering the pages. It can be exhausting and disheartening to know all these seemingly fairytale Hollywood romances never last that long.
But those celebrity relationships that have stood the test of time are so inspirational. Despite all the wealth and opportunities they have, they still do everything they can to make it work.
Jeff Bridges and his wife Susan Geston are a perfect example of such a solid marriage. And thankfully Jeff is open to sharing his secrets to success to help inspire us all.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, The Oscar-winning actor talked of his inability to make a decision. He recalled after living together for three years, Susan announced that if he wasn’t going to marry her she would be returning to Montana.
“I can’t let this woman go,” Bridges told Jimmy Kimmel in 2017, after he was congratulated on 40 years of marriage.
Diamond in the sand
Jeff described his forever love as like a diamond in the sand.
He told Kimmel that when he got down on one knee and proposed, on a Thursday, Susan said, “Okay, when?” Bridges’ response was, “How about Saturday?”

That was in 1977, and three daughters and a grandchild later the couple, are still very much in love.
Though the actor admitted that falling in love at first sight with Susan and knowing that she was the one scared him. He feared the words, “’til death do us part.”
It took some time, but Bridges shared with Reader’s Digest in 2006 all about his journey to marrying his one true love and how they have remained so solid over the years.

“I’m the guy who makes the buck,” he wrote, “but she’s the one who takes care of everything else. I really am more in love with her than ever.”
The two have learned plenty about communication and staying together through tough times.
‘Brilliant doors’
“What you don’t know until you get married is that you think all the other doors close — which is true,” Bridges explained.
“But this doorway you open [with marriage] is a hallway lined with all these other brilliant doors — kids, deeper intimacy, adventures, and everything else.”

“This is a bump,” he said. “Now let’s see if our love can grow to embrace this bump… the bump can serve to create more intimacy between us.”

This is great advice for us all and serves to remind us that marriage is not easy, its something we constantly have to work at.
In June 2019 the couple will be celebrating 42 years of marriage and continue to set a wonderful example as a dedicated and hardworking couple.
‘Love her more’
In the end, their secret appears to be all about sticking with it despite hard times. “If you change partners every time it gets tough or you get a little dissatisfied, then you don’t get the richness that’s available in a long-term relationship,” he said, according to The Daily Beast.
“My wife supports me and it makes me love her more.”
