Police dog who was stabbed in line of duty returns to become hero again after saving children

Brave police dog Django was badly injured when he was stabbed in the chest while dealing with a violent offender last summer.

Unsure whether he would survive the attack he was rushed into intensive care but being the fighter that he is, just a few months later he was back on duty.

Since then, several thieves have been caught thanks to Django and this week he again showed what a hero he is.

Django was called in to help his fellow officers search for a woman who was suspected of having unlawfully taken her children, according to Swedish newspaper the Expressen.

She was spotted by police in a car with her two children, aged 10 and 12, and another woman in Älmhult, Sweden.

When officers finally caught up with the car, the woman had escaped on foot with her children in freezing cold temperatures in the dark. Officers were concerned for the safety of the children.

In view of the temperature, she risked both her own life and the children’s when she escaped on foot into the forest, officers wrote on their Facebook page.

Django the police dog along with two other dog patrols were called into action and began the hunt for the family.

The woman was quickly found but her children were not with her.

Crouched and shivering

Django soon got on the scent and continued his search, including over a deep river. Django and his driver found the 12-year-old child, who was crouched and shivering, the Expressen reports.

The officer wrapped the child in his own jacket and carried the 12-year-old to safety. The 10-year-old was found soon after by another patrol.

Police praised the actions of the police dogs on their Facebook page  without which the children may not have been found and certainly not as quickly.

The woman was arrested and her children are being cared for.
