As a parent, you learn exactly what your baby wants when it cries. In most cases, it is because the baby is hungry, tired or cold. There is also a special cry that signals when something is not right.
Anyone who has ever heard the cries of a desperate baby will never forget the sound.
When passers by walked down a street in Durban, South Africa, they heard a baby screaming but couldn’t tell where it was coming from. The cries were piercing and all they could do was call for help.
Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo from the Public Health Authority of the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, confirmed in a Facebook post that the loud screams of a baby girl was heard in a suburb of Durban.
Paramedics and the Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and worked to locate where the cries were coming from.
They discovered the baby inside a storm water drain and started the rescue operation.
The delicate rescue mission took four hours and a chisel and a hammer had to be used to break the drain so they could get to the child.

According to American media , the baby was rescued with her umbilical chord in tact and is thought to be between one and three days old.
She was taken to hospital where Dr Timothy Hardcastle said, apart from mild hypothermia, the girl is otherwise healthy.
‘It’s a miracle’
He said it was “a mercy from above that she is alive.”
“I think any child who survives any amount of hours – and it sounds like it was at least four to five hours – in a stormwater pipe on days two or three after birth is a miracle,” he added.
Against all odds, this baby now has a new life and a new name — Sibanisethu, which means “our ray of light.”
The police are working to locate her parents and an attempted murder investigation has been opened.
