Screen star Sandra Bullock has been in our lives for decades, which is hard to believe when she looks as young as she does.
We’ve all fallen in love with her movies and along with her quick-witted nature on display in interviews means it’s hard not to love this talented lady.
But there’s more to Sandra Bullock than meets the eye; it has been revealed that she’s one of the first celebrities to help when disaster strikes and her donations are generous.
The Academy Award winner did hit the headlines when she donated a total of $500,000 to the Red Cross during the California fires for California wildlife relief.
Quietly donating
“In addition to her $100,000 donation to the Humane Society of Ventura County, California, Bullock added $400,000 to the American Red Cross, the organization recently announced,” according to PEOPLE
But what most of the public didn’t know was this wasn’t the first time that she had generously donated to a needy cause. The Ocean’s 8 star has been quietly donating millions to charities for many years without any public recognition.
Following the devastating September 11 attacks targeting New York City, the Golden Globe winner donated $1 million.
In a group of four coordinated terrorist attacks almost 3,000 people died and thousands left wounded. Sandra took part in a telethon which was aired across the nation and helped to bring in more than $150 million in pledges, according to CNN.
Sandra, who was the highest paid actress in the world in 2010 and 2014, also made a $1 million donation following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.
The earthquake caused a series of large tsunamis which killed over 220,000 people in 14 countries.
In August 2005 a category 5 hurricane hit the U.S. states of Florida, Louisiana, and New Orleans.
An estimated 1,833 people died because of Hurricane Katrina and caused catastrophic destruction between central Florida and eastern Texas.
Emergency financial assistance
The Red Cross served a staggering 68 million meals as part of the relief effort and provided emergency financial assistance to 1.4 million families.
Bullock donated another $1 million to the relief efforts.
Sandra also contributed to the relief efforts following the the Haiti earthquake which hit in 2010. It displaced hundreds of thousands of survivors.
The Speed star made her generous donation to Doctors without Borders.
The following year an earthquake, with a magnitude of 9.0 to 9.1, occurred off the coast of Japan and was the most powerful recorded in the country.
The Blind Side star donated $1 million to the Red Cross to help fund the relief program.
As well as her generous donations to help people recover and rebuild their lives after such devastation, Sandra Bullock has also donated money to help rebuild a school that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
She also donated ten pairs of signed shoes to an auction benefiting Art + Practice, in Los Angeles, which helps support the needs of the community’s local foster youth.
Her generosity knows no bounds.
