Natural homemade Magnesium “chill pill” gummies great for relieving insomnia, anxiety, and stress

We’ve all had those nights when we can’t get to sleep and we spend hours tossing and turning. Thankfully those nights happen infrequently for most of us.

But it may surprise you to know that 10 per cent of us have a chronic insomnia disorder, which occurs at least three times per week for at least three months.

There are many products on the market to help aid sleep, but some of them are not recommended for long term use.

Now a new recommendation has come to light in the form of a natural product found in an abundance of every day foods.

Magnesium is a mineral that our body needs to maintain a healthy metabolism, blood sugar levels, bones and nerve and muscle function.

It’s also good for fighting insomnia and relieving stress and anxiety and because it’s a natural product it can be taken long-term as long as you don’t take more than the recommended daily allowance.

Magnesium is naturally found in whole wheat foods as well as spinach, salmon, almonds, quinoa, black beans and avocado.

Sleep disorder specialist Michael J Breus Ph.D. said magnesium levels protected metabolic health, stabilized mood, kept stress in check and promoted better sleep.

“Insomnia is a common symptom of magnesium deficiency. People with low magnesium often experience restless sleep, waking frequently during the night,” he said.

“Maintaining healthy magnesium levels often leads to deeper, more sound sleep. Magnesium plays a role in supporting deep, restorative sleep by maintaining healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep.”

To make your own delicious magnesium gummies follow this simple recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp magnesium citrate
  • 3 tbsp organic gelatin powder
  • 250 ml lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp organic sweetener (maple syrup, honey, stevia)
  • A pinch of sea or Himalayan salt

Instructions:

Mix the magnesium powder and the lemon juice, and it will start foaming, so add a tablespoon of the powder at a time. Then, pour the mixture into a pot, add the gelatin, and stir.

Over medium heat, warm up the mixture to dissolve the gelatin, and add the salt and honey.

Do not overwork it with your whisk to prevent foaming again, and cook until you get ¾ cups of the liquid. You can add more juice if you need more liquid.

Next, pour the mixture into molds or a baking tray, and place it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge.
