Age really is a state of mind and nobody embodies this more than Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas.
At 102 years old he’s showing no sign of putting his feet up and “retiring.”
Just recently he was captured on camera doing something that people decades younger would consider themselves too old for — camping.
The photo shows the legendary actor in a green and blue tent in a backyard, lying on an air mattress under a blanket and wearing sunglasses.
According to the Daily Mail, his 40-year-old grandson Cameron captioned the photo, which has now been removed from Instagram, with the words, “This amazing man, my Pappy, is such inspiration in so many ways! Going camping at 102! #Spartacus #thrunthru.”
The Spartacus and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea star is also best know for his role in Stanley Kubrick-directed movie Paths of Glory.
He’s been awarded the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement and Presidential Medal of Freedom and is one of the last surviving stars of the film industry’s Golden Age having appeared in more than 90 movies.
Supported his family
After impoverished beginnings as son of Jewish immigrants with seven sisters, this is one person who understands the true meaning of hard work and determination, which is probably why he’s still going strong at 102.
Before he found fame he did a series of odd jobs to support his family including working as a paper boy.
His feature film debut was in 1946, in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, and it wasn’t long before he became the box office star we know and love.
He’s been married to his second wife producer Anne Buydens for 64 years and the Douglas dynasty are a close knit family constantly caught on camera together sharing special moments in their lives.
In an interview with British TV host Lorraine Kelly, Kirk’s son Michael Douglas said his father was showing no signs of slowing down.
“He still has a trainer. He works out with a trainer at 101.”
Still working out
“I remember when Dad was 90 and he had a guy that he worked out with for more than 30 years, 40 years, Mike Abrams”.
“I went to see Dad one day, he was 90 and wasn’t feeling so good. I said, ‘Dad, what’s wrong? You don’t look good.’ He said, ‘Ah, Mike died.’ I said, ‘Ah Dad I’m so sorry, Mike died? How old was Mike, Dad?’ ‘94.’”
God bless this amazing man!
