The idea that people are preying on the elderly and trying to rob them or take advantage makes my blood boil. Attacking children and the elderly has to be among the most cowardly of actions.
But in this incident, captured on camera and released by police, a 77-year-old man shows a robber that he’s picked the wrong person to attack.
The video, released by South Wales Police, in the U.K., shows the elderly man getting out of his car and walking to an ATM to withdraw money.
It’s dark and there’s nobody else around until a man walks by and starts pushing the man in an effort to grab his wallet.
The plucky pensioner pushes him away and manages to get his wallet back and into a pocket before he then starts punching him.
Speaking to BBC News brave grandfather Trevor Weston revealed the actual horror of the situation.
“I got out my £20 ($25) and had just put my wallet back in my pocket when this bloke – this thing – came from nowhere, grabbed me and said, ‘Give me your money or I’ll stab you’,” he said.
“When he demanded I hand over my money, I replied, ‘You what? Do you want some of this, pal?’ and I put up my guard.
“Actually, it’s a good job there’s no sound on that video because I probably turned the air blue with what I really said.”
Trevor, who says he’s never been in a fight in his life, said he hit the would-be robber in the mouth and he ran off.
Trevor’s bravery in this scary situation is commendable and I’m glad he didn’t let his attacker get away with anything but it could have been very dangerous for him.
We’re glad he’s okay and he has his loving family around him to give him all the praise. Please share.
