This picture was first shared online back in 2012 when it was uploaded to Reddit.
Not much is known about it or the people in it, but recently, it’s been making the rounds again — and for good reason.
Homelessness is just about the worst thing I can think of. There’s so much wealth in the world these days and it seems that if we just shared it a little better, no one would have to suffer without a roof over their head.
But unfortunately, that’s not the how things are. In reality, even some people in rich countries are forced to live on the streets and go to sleep hungry.
I mean, think about what it must be like to grow up without a roof over your head! Or to not know whether there will be food on the table for dinner tonight…
Which is why this picture is so heartening.
We still don’t know much about the photo, the man or the girl he’s giving a pair of sandals to. But we do know that the picture was taken on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It’s especially moving because the older man is giving the girl the sandals right off his feet. Talk about restoring hope in humanity!

So far nothing is known about the girl’s background. A lot of people on social media are asking if she’s homeless or not.
Either way, the photo is a powerful reminder that there are a lot of people out there who need even basic things like shoes. And it’s also a powerful display of generosity.
I hope it inspires more of people to donate food, money, clothes and whatever else is needed to those who are less fortunate.
In the last couple of days, the image has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and I’m hopeful that with a little help, its example of generosity will spread around the world.
