Oscar-winning Hollywood legend Jeff Bridges reveals his ‘prize possession’ for the first time

Hollywood actor Jeff Bridges has been acting since he was two years old. With a string of awards to his name he is credited with one of the most iconic movie roles as the Dude in The Big Lebowski.

His wife isn’t an actress but the two met on a film set and have been married for 40 years.

If having a successful marriage in such a celebrity-driven environment isn’t enough, the story of how they met could be straight off the pages of a movie script.

In the video below he shares his most prized possession for the first time and it may surprise you all.

The screen legend has been nominated for an Academy award six times — winning one for Crazy Heart.

Despite being surrounded by other movie legends his whole life you would be forgiven for thinking that Bridges is in a league of his own. He’s more like the rest of us than you would assume.

Caught staring

The item he counts as most dear to his heart isn’t Lebowski’s robe, a True Grit prop gun or his Best Actor Oscar.

In 1975 Bridges was in Montana for a movie called Rancho Deluxe when he spotted a woman he couldn’t take his eyes off.

She had two black eyes and a broken nose and wasn’t part of the film crew.

After he was caught a few times staring at her, despite trying to hide it with a magazine, he found the courage to ask her out.

The lady in question Susan Geston responded with a ‘no’ but Bridges still hoped he would see her again as they were in a small town.

Bridges did bump into her again, in a bar and the two danced the night away.

“And that was about it, man,” says Bridges. “I mean, I was head-over-heels— I was head-over-heels the first time I saw her.”

The rest is history. Bridges married Susan Geston in 1977.

But, it was 10 years after they were married that he was sent something from the makeup man from the movie Rancho Deluxe that he has treasured ever since.

He was sent a letter with two pictures of the first time Bridges spoke to his wife.

His eyes light up when he recalls how gorgeous he thought she was and how it really was love at first sight.

“I have them in my pocket, they are my prized possession.”

Romances in Hollywood – and even romances outside of Hollywood, too – don’t seem to last that often, especially between people who are in the business and those who are not, but Bridges and his wife are the exception that prove the rule.

Hear more of this romantic story from the man himself in the clip below.

Such a beautiful story of the humble beginnings of a great love story, that has stood the test of time, despite all the distractions.

Always loved him as an actor, and now I have so much respect for him as a man, a husband. He is a wonderful role model.
