Sleepless nights can be very disruptive and often affect how you function on a daily basis; unfortunately it’s a common problem that affects many.
There are many tips for a better night’s sleep such as hot milk, counting sheep, avoiding screen time before bed and relaxation exercises – but for may these are tried and tested methods that don’t always work.
I was however, very excited to find out about this latest tip for getting a sound night’s sleep. It requires very few ingredients and the result was something I had to share.
We all know the benefits of eating bananas as they are packed full of vitamins, fiber, minerals and natural sugars that make our bodies very happy.
One of these useful nutrients is magnesium. A medium sized banana contains around 32 mg of magnesium – while the banana skin also contains magnesium.
What you may not know is magnesium helps to relax our muscles while vitamin B6, also found in banana peel, helps regulate our sleep cycle. And with a simple recipe, you can benefit from these valuable nutrients and enjoy a better night’s sleep.

You will need:
1 organic banana peel (ends trimmed off)
1 small pot of water (enough for a regular sized mug)
A sprinkle of cinnamon
1. Place peel, with ends cut off, in water and bring to a boil.
2. Cover, reduce heat and simmer.
3. Boil for about 10 minutes. Then remove from heat and strain out peel.
4. Sprinkle cinnamon (if using) and sweetener if needed into your tea and enjoy!
It only takes a few minutes to prepare, it only requires a few ingredients that most of us have in our kitchen and unlike sleeping pills, you don’t feel groggy the next day.
Drink the tea about an hour before bedtime, to get the maximum effect. Then just look forward to a good night’s sleep!
This simple trick will certainly help me next time I’m struggling to sleep.
