Grease star Olivia Newton-John battling cancer for the third time in three decades

Movie star Olivia Newton-John is probably best know for playing the legendary role of Sandy in ’70s hit movie Grease. Her duet “You’re the One That I Want” with smooth talking Danny Zuko, played by the equally legendary John Travolta, has to be up there as one of the most memorable moments in movie history.

Their amazing grand finale performing that song elevated it to one of the best-selling singles of all time.

For Newton-John, the film became her major breakthrough, and four years later, she would be reunited on screen with Travolta in the movie Two of a Kind.

She is also a successful singer winning four Grammy awards with five number-one hits under her belt.

She even has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – in recognition for her great career.

But not everything has always been joy and success for the 69-year-old, who was born in Cambridge in the UK and moved to Australia when she was four years old.

She has battled cancer twice and has been told it has returned for a third time, according to CNN.

In 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, fought it and had a cancer center in Australia named after her, after becoming a fierce advocate for breast cancer screening.

Then in 2013 she was diagnosed again with breast cancer and this time it had spread to her shoulder.  In a program on CNN, she reveals why she didn’t want to talk about her battle in public.

“I thought it’s my life and I decided I’d keep it to myself,” she said in an interview with Sunday Night on CNN .

Then, in 2017 she was told her breast cancer had returned and metastasized to her lower back.

Supported by her husband

The support of husband John Easterling is something she gets great strength from and says she is determined to beat the disease for the third time.

“My husband is always there and supports me. I think I’ll win it, it’s my goal,” she said.

After receiving her third diagnosis, she tells the CNN program that she is using cannabis oil for the pain. It’s currently banned in Australia where she was raised, but in parts of the United States it is legal.

“I am very pleased that I live in a (US) state where it’s legal …my dream is that in Australia soon it will be available to all the cancer patients and people going through cancer or any kind of disease that causes pain,” she said.

The singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, and activist will be celebrating her 70th birthday at the end of September.
