When it comes time to have your baby, the excitement at meeting this person that has been growing inside of you for nine months is overwhelming.
For most moms, it can also be a stressful time as nobody knows exactly how their labor is going to go. For Mercedes Casanellas, she went into labor five weeks early and had to have an emergency C-section.
The first time mom, from El Savador, was excited to meet her son and as all moms can relate to, would endure anything to have a healthy baby.
After giving birth to her beautiful baby boy she gave him a kiss before he was taken to the nursery. But, when they brought him back the next day mom Mercedes knew something was wrong.
Her husband Richard Cushworth, from the U.K. was away in Texas when his son was born and wasn’t able to make it to the hospital in time.
Mercedes had to endure her labor without him.
The morning after she had her son, he was brought back to her and she noticed something different about him.
She suspected she had got the wrong child. But doctors insisted it was the right baby and blamed her suspicions on the medication she had been given during and after her labor.
After a few days Mercedes and her husband Richard flew home to Texas, with their baby, but as the child grew, he looked less and less like either of them.
DNA test
Finally, Richard and Mercedes decided to have a DNA test to find out the truth once and for all.
When the results came, their suspicions were confirmed, the child they had been raising for nine months was not their son, writes The Guardian.
An investigation was started to find the couple’s biological son in El Salvador.
After testing all the mothers who were in the same maternity ward as Mercedes, they managed to find the biological mother of the boy Mercedes and Richard had been given.
Reunited more than a year later
They also found that this mother had Richard and Mercedes’ biological son.
After a lot of paperwork, Richard and Mercedes could finally bring their biological son, Moses, home to the United States, more than a year after she had given birth to him.
