Pit bull starts barking at owner, picks baby up by the diaper – then mom realizes the danger

Throughout history, canine companions have been saving lives and earning their moniker as man’s best friend.

Sadly some breeds – the pit bull perhaps most of all – get a lot of bad publicity when really, in a lot of cases, you could argue it’s bad owners rather than bad dogs.

In the case of 8-month-old pit bull Sasha, her family have her to thank that they’re alive today, after a house fire broke out while her owners were sleeping.

Nana Chaichanhda was abruptly woken in her Stockton, California, home by her dog Sasha, who was banging against her door. When the sleepy Nana opened the door, her dog began to bark incessantly and refused to quiten.

“I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,’” Nana told Fox40.

“My neighbor’s home was totally destroyed, and the fire was quickly spreading to my unit,” the mother wrote online. “[Sasha] was trying to warn us of the fire. I got out of bed to see what was going on.”

The frightened mom immediately ran to get her baby daughter, and when she entered her room Sasha was already there carrying her child to safety by her diaper.

“Little did I know, Sasha would become my hero,” Nana wrote on a GoFundMe page intended to raise money after losing her home in the fire.

Firefighters soon arrived at the scene, but it was too late to save her and her cousin’s home. Thankfully her cousin was out at the time.

Even though Nana has lost her home, it could have been so much worse if her smart dog hadn’t jumped into action and alerted her.

“It meant a lot. I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” she said.
