Father uses 11-month-old son as ‘human shield’ – baby shot four times

A 25-year-old man is accused of using his son as a “human shield” after the 11-month-old was critically wounded in a shooting, according to top prosecutor.

Nafes Monroe was attempting to buy drugs with fake cash in Hunting Park, Philadelphia when the incident happened last month. Something that detectives said sparked the violence.

He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person. He had his baby boy Yazeem Jenkins in the car with him when a gunman shot the boy four times.

Baby shot in head and neck

During a press conference Anthony Voci Jr., the chief of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Homicide Unit accused Monroe of using his child as a “human shield” while buying drugs, NBC Philadelphia reported. The little boy was critically injured after being shot in the head and neck.

“Our investigation has led us to believe that he intentionally had his child with him when he was making such types of purchases, with the idea or belief that if someone saw that he had a child in the car, that they would not fire upon him,” Voci said. “A ‘human shield’ is probably the term that I would use.”

Police said the alleged shooter Francisco Ortiz, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

I hope this little boy is now in safe hands and won’t have to return to such a violent environment.

Please SHARE and pray this boy ends up in the home he deserves and justice is served.
