Most people suffer a headache or two every now and then. It often comes at an inconvenient time when we can’t lie down and take a nap to get rid of it.
It’s one of the most common ailments given the vast number of us who sit staring at screens all day. Other causes of headaches include tension, tiredness or dehydration.
When we do get a headache our first thought or suggestion from others is to take a pain killer. But did you know you can relieve it naturally without any medication?
Lavender oil has strong healing properties including anti-inflammatory.
Try this delicious and very healthy recipe for Lavender Lemonade – one taste of this and I was hooked!
Lavender oil offers strong anti-inflammatory, sedative, analgesic, antifungal, antidepressant, antiseptic and antibacterial effects, according to Holistic Living.
For example, a study published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology found that lavender oil could be effective in combating antifungal-resistant infections.
Lavender is a traditional remedy for anxiety, and it’s also an excellent mood enhancer.
A review article in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice evaluates how effective Silexan might be for patients with different anxiety disorders. Silexan is a lavender-oil preparation available in 80-milligram (mg) gelatine capsules.
The team found that Silexan had an anxiolytic, or anxiety-reducing, effect on patients with generalized or subsyndromal anxiety within 2 weeks.
Researchers have also found that lavender scent may help anxious dental patients.
Drinking lavender
There are a number of ways you can introduce this beneficial oil into your life. You can add 5-6 drops of the soothing oil to your bath to treat dry skin and relax your body.
You can also add 10-12 drops of lavender oil in your diffuser to reduce stress naturally.
Add it to organic oil or water and use it as a spray to repel insects or use it as a body oil and it will help to relax you and sleep better.
Lavender and lemons
Combine lavender oil with lemons and you have a a super healthy cocktail of nutrients. Lemons are a great remedy for relieving headaches and migraines.
Lemons are full of potassium, which is good for the heart, brain and nerve functions.
Low potassium levels have been associated with low moods and depression.
A 2008 study published in the “British Journal of Nutrition” found that a high-potassium diet helped to relieve symptoms of depression and tension.
Try combining lavender and lemon in this delicious pain-relieving drink.
